Events


On King’s Night and King’s Day there are various festivities and community activities in and around the city centre of Groningen.

In time you will find a map here with all events in and around the city centre of Groningen, as well as links to community activities (outside the centre).


Programme King's Night (April 26th)


Vismarkt, 7.00 pm – 1 am: Mainstage
The main stage is on the Vismarkt, as always. During King’s Night and King’s Day various artists and DJs will perform here.

Poeleplein, 9 pm – 1 am: King’s Dance Square
The well-known DJ Arnoud from Groningen will make sure there is a great disco and dance party on the Poeleplein.

Ellebogen, 9.30 pm – 1 am: Live music and DJs
As usual, there will be a great and festive atmosphere in the Ellebogen! Various DJs and artists will perform on both indoor and outdoor stages. Have a look in this neighbourhood, consisting of Kromme Elleboog, Turftorenstraat and Oude Kijk in ’t Jatstraat.

Ossenmarkt, 8.30 pm – 1 am: The Blues Square of Groningen
Blues lovers can enjoy all kinds of rhythm & blues music. At the Ossenmarkt it’s blues only during King’s Night!

Zuiderdiep, 7.30 pm – 1 am: Live music
Along the Zuiderdiep there are several indoor and outdoor stages outside with live music. A great variety of bands and DJs will perform.

Hoge der A, 7 pm – 1.30 am: Food festival 'Achter de Ellebogen'
NEW this year in the city centre: a food festival on the Vishoekplein near the Hoge der A. With all kinds of food trucks and outdoor bars. DJ ‘Radio de Koperen Hond’ will make sure there is music!  

Cultural centre De Oosterpoort, 10 pm – 5 am: Noisia Invites
As usual, the drum & bass heroes of Noisia from Groningen will be hosting Noisia Invites during King’s Night.

Stadspark, 7 pm – 1 am: Helden van Oranje
At the racecourse in our beautiful city park, the Stadspark, the traditional sing along festival, Helden van Oranje (Heroes of Orange), will warm up everyone to King’s Day. Information and tickets
 

Programme King's Day (April 27th)


Noorderplantsoen, 9 am – 5 pm: Outdoor flea market
The attractive outdoor flea market is in the Noorderplantsoen, our lovely park near the city centre. From 7 am onwards you are welcome to find a nice spot here to sell your goods.
Visitors are welcome to the outdoor flea market from 9 am onwards. So do come along and enjoy the hustle and bustle! Or just have a bite and drink in our wonderful Noorderplantsoen.

Westerhaven, 9 am – 5 pm: Childrens’ outdoor flea market
NEW this year: an outdoor flea market especially for children! From 9 am onwards children are welcome to find a nice spot to sell their goods. The bidding and selling can start immediately!

Vismarkt, 1 pm – 11 pm: Mainstage
The main stage is on the Vismarkt, as always. During King’s Night and King’s Day various artists and DJs will perform here.

Harmonieplein, 2 pm - 6 pm: Knowledge is king!
Young Academy Groningen and Science LinX welcome all inquisitive children to stop by. There are lots of activities in various areas of science. Researchers of the University of Groningen (RUG) and the academic hospital (UMCG) will coach the children. Read more

Poeleplein, 2 pm – midnight: King’s Live Square
Between 2 and 7 pm there is an entertaining TOP 40 party at this square, alternated by a DJ. From 8 pm onwards the DJ will be playing nonstop. The party ends at midnight.

Ossenmarkt, 1 pm – 7 pm: The Family Square
On King’s Day this square is especially for families with children between 0 and 12 years of age. There are various activities for children, among which a performance by the Kidsband.

Diepenring, 3 – 5 pm: canal parade
A festive parade of small orange-decorated boats will move along the canals around the city centre. The boats start out at the Ludina-terrace on the Turfsingel, near the Ebbingebrug. The parade ends at the Vissersbrug, connecting the Hoge and Lage der A. Want to sail along? Please visit: www.grachtenfestijn.nl (website is in Dutch only).

Zuiderdiep, 3 pm – 9 pm: Live music
At several bars along the Zuiderdiep there are outdoor stages with live music. A great variety of bands and DJs will perform.

Hoge der A, 2 pm – 0.30 am: Food festival 'Achter de Ellebogen'

Ubbo Emmiussingel (Emmaplein-side), 9 am – 5 pm: Healthiest city
The theme at this square, the Emmaplein, is: ‘Groningen healthiest city of the Netherlands.’ Here you will be able to enjoy healthy bites and drinks. Furthermore, you can participate in various clinics and games. Plenty of entertainment for both young and old!

Ubbo Emmiussingel (Hereplein-side), 9 am – 5 pm: Dance and music
Do you like singing and dancing? Then the Hereplein is the place to be! You can join in on all kinds of activities and enjoy shows with song & dance. Of course, you can enjoy it all while having a drink or bite.

Stadspark, 2 pm – midnight: Kingsland Dance Festival
At the racecourse in the city park, Stadspark, you can go crazy at dance festival Kingsland. Don’t miss it! Information and tickets
